Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot. | | | Product Details: | | | Product Length:

Kindle 2Jul 29, 2010 I have used this product daily from 6am to midnight for the past 35 days. Loaded 8 books and read 6. I have only one complaint and it probably comes from my inexperience with the reader. I have lost my place in the book when I utilized other functions such as the dictionary or the home page. Having had to care for a sick relative 2500 miles from home it has been a godsend in keeping my sanity, providing hours of quiet entertainment.

Problem with All KindlesJul 29, 2010 First, I have nothing against the 6 inch kindle now that the price is dropping. In fact I almost bought one, until I started looking at the e-book prices. I thought that $9.99 was a little high, but now I see the prices going up to $14.99. I know that some are lower, but I also see recently published books at $12.99 up to 14.99. I don't know where it will stop, and I do not want to buy a kindle and not use it because of the price of e-books. By buying the physical book at the same or lower price, check Cosco prices. There are also lots of used book stores. I can loan them out or donate them to places that get them to people that do not have good access to books.
It is not the Kindle that gets the low rating, but the ever increasing price of the e-books.

Kindle Wireless Reading Device 6" Display 2nd GenJul 29, 2010 Love it, love it, love it. I'm an avid reader and I had some rewards points with Amazon so I decided, hey - why not try it because I get to use my points.
I was skeptical that I would miss holding a book, but found that not to be true. I find myself not skipping over long descriptive paragraphs as much because the type is so easy to read and clear.
It turns out that is so compact and easy to put in most medium size purses that I wind up taking it everywhere and can read whenever I have a free moment.
I'm not really a technical person so I did have to call the Kindle help-line to assist me in downloading. I haven't used a lot of its capabilities yet...just basic downloading and then using it to read so I can't comment on other aspects.
I've only owned it for a month or so and have yet to recharge the battery. It maybe because I only use it in spurts. One of the Kindle techs told me it was better to leave the Kindle in "sleep" than to keep turning it on & off as the battery would last longer.
I don't have wireless where I live so I do have to download from my computer if I want to obtain a book while at home so that is a bit of a pain. But, that would be resolved if I just wait til I get in an area where I can download it from the wireless.
I ordered a book-type leather holder for it so I can protect it when toting it around. Sometimes you get hand-fatique when holding it but no more than holding a book in the same position for a long time.
One of the highlights to me is that now when I read a review of a book somewhere I can immediately have it downloaded so that I don't forget about that book later.
I usually wait for the paperback editions to come out but I figure if I want to read a book sooner than later, I now have an easy way of getting it without owning hundreds of paperbacks or hardbacks (which by the way I still have 300 waiting for me to read - just wish I had them on the Kindle!).
Highly recommend for avid readers!
Never leave home without itJul 29, 2010 Ok my review is short only because I am not the owner of the product it was a gift and here is what I have heard from the owner. My mom says she takes this everywhere she goes, to work, to the gym (I was surprised about that, must be small enough), get her hair cut, and even on walks around the neighborhood. She has told me she has even taken it to the beach with no problem seeing during the hot bright Florida sun; I must say that is some screen if it allows her to see during the sun. I have to say I have read how many books you can store and just think that is so amazing, schools should just start using these to cut back on cost and wasting paper/trees. I have asked her about the voice reading, she said it works great but no ideal for her, she would rather read it herself because the voice is to plain and makes stories seem plan, but loves that it can hold MP3s which I though was very cool. I love the fact that she can get books anywhere 3G is, that is amazing because neither she nor I had to pay for a contract, Thank you Amazon. Overall I am pleased with my purchase as a gift and my mom just loves this; also it must be easy to use too cause she is not tech savvy so that is a HUGE +. I think it was the best Christmas gift I have given her to date. Took me long to write this review because I just wanted to make sure it was a great product over time and like I said to date she is taking it everywhere she goes. Bought this along with Kindle Leather Cover, Black (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle)
Reading is easy!Jul 29, 2010 As my eyes have gained years and years of experience reading, they also struggle lately in picking up the words from the printed page. The Kindle has made it easy for me to read again. It has also given me the opportunity to pick up books (free) that I had always intended to read like "Man and Superman" by George Bernard Shaw. I love it!
